A manager reviews the list of people she will lay off within the hour.
Planning a Layoff?
Layoffs hit hard.
Did you know,
the US Department of Labor reports that one-third of those who lose their jobs will find new jobs within a month. The remaining two-thirds will average 5.6 months finding a new job.
The longer someone is out of work, the more difficult it becomes for them to find a new job.
As a result, many will eventually,
- Look for a lesser job than they previously held
- Look for work in a different occupation
- Look for part-time work
- Look for work under the table
After six months without a job,
these job hunters are then referred to as, “The Long Term Unemployed.”
Many hiring managers are hesitant to interview them for their job openings. They feel that these long-term job hunters were probably laid off due to poor performance.

Hi, I’m Harry Dahlstrom. I wrote Surviving A Layoff.
When writing it, I wanted people to know, that they are not alone.
Every year, millions of people lose their jobs due to a layoff. The fear they feel after their layoff is real and It's frightening.
In this small book, I wanted to give them some real insights on how to handle the emotional and financial problems they will face, plus a simple, powerful job-search plan to move off the unemployment rolls quickly.
Surviving A Layoff is NOT another 250 page textbook.
Instead, it’s the size of a news magazine—8 by 10 inches with 50 pages. You can read it, cover to cover, in an hour or so and get started right away. The chapters are short, friendly, easy to read, easy to use, and they include material you won’t find anywhere else.
Here are just a few important topics included in Surviving A Layoff.
- How to cope with the emotional stress of losing your job. How to tell your family you've been laid off. See the annual job openings for your occupation and 199 others. Plus a step-by-step plan to get the jobs you need and want.
- Four simple ways to take control your finances so you can focus on the job hunt, not the bill collectors.
- Just fill in the blanks to write a one-page resume showing that you are the solution to a hiring manager’s needs.
- How to side-step other job hunters. Win job interviews and job offers with little competition. (Note: This is also the best option for the Long-Term Unemployed to regain employment.)
- Make a great impression by showing a little personality while answering 50 tough interview questions with ease. Plus so much more.
